Policy Slate

SB871 (Sen. Pan)

This bill adds the COVID-19 vaccine to the list of required immunization requirements for both public and private schools, and removes the personal belief exemptions within vaccine mandates previously issued by the CA Dept. of Public Health. The bill aims to protect CA students by addressing the risks posed by emergent COVID variants and anticipating future viral transmission trends and potential lags in vaccination.

SB866 (Sen. Weiner)

This bill would allow minors 12 and above to consent to any vaccine sufficiently approved by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). It would allow health providers to administer any vaccines to minors 12 and above that have been approved by the ACIP. SB866 would remove the requirement for parents and guardians to consent before such a vaccine can be administered.

AB452 (Asm. Friedman)

This bill would require local education agencies to inform parents and guardians of students at the beginning of each semester or quarter of the school year of California’s child access prevention laws and laws relating to the safe storage of firearms.
