Ensuring that all students in California, regardless of their identity, have equal access to the education they are entitled to receive.
This bill increases school and educator discretion over the management of in-school student behaviors by eliminating current requirements that schools must notify law enforcement officials of on-campus incidents. The bill also repeals sections of Education code that prosecute/punish staff who fail to report or “willfully ignore” on-campus altercations, restoring flexibility in how educators make these consequential decisions and keeping students in school rather than bringing them to face the criminal justice system.
